THIS VERY SPECIAL DAY, A YEAR AGO
22nd of August 2011, a very special day for some of us - a day we might remembered for life. The day we set sail to the Gulf of Aden and away from Singapore, our home for 4 months. The day we set sail to a new journey of life.
Times really flies, its been a year and I'm back to civilian life, back to school, back to a student and back to studies.
The 4 months deployment out at Gulf of Aden, thousands miles away from Singapore - A very once in a life time experience...although its really tough but somehow worth it ( Im not talking about the risk paid we got ). How the bonding were built with fellow ship crew.
-Pirates,
when I told my friends I'm leaving Singapore for some anti-piracy
mission. Some reaction was " Really got pirates exist? " I guess what
came across their mind or their impression of Pirates is " Pirates of
the Caribbean " The movie ! LOL. However, we did engage with pirates and had a
real firing action.
-Like after dinner, grab a Haagen Daz Ice cream on one hand and a cigarette on the other, chilling with the sea breeze and watch the sun disappear from the horizon with friends all around.
-Determine to gym everyday because mainly by peer influences. However, its really good to exercise and you felt work has been done and how your muscles strain.
-Watching movie together in our mess ( the place where we sleep) and of course gaming with our PS3 - our all time favorite game, Winning Eleven.
-Playing Soccer on the Welldock ( A place where you can flood water and allow smaller vessel and boat to enter our ship). It really good to sweat it out sometime. Because almost everywhere and everyday you are in the air-condition area.
-Counting how many shooting stars you see every night. Its really amaze how frequent shooting stars appear in the night sky out at sea. Guess I saw hundreds of shooting stars during this 4 months.
-Dolphins - Saw hundreds of dolphins jump out of the surface of the ocean follow our ship while we transit.
-Whales, its breath-taking just looking at it - how it maneuver and how huge it is.
- Port of Call ( Places where we come to a stop at this particular country) We went to Djibouti, Africa - Salalah and Muscat, Oman - Bahrain and of course the best port of all Dubai! First time in my life I went to a desert. The most amazing tour is the sea that you can't drown, it's amaze how you can flow on the water!!
With so many great experiences, what more can I ask for. And of course the money is good! Because of this I saw 5 digit on my ATM for the first time.. hahaahaha. LOL.
End. kenkerron
